Biography
René Smit joined Luminis Health OB-GYN – Annapolis in 2003. She received her RN, CNM, and psychiatric nurse practitioner degrees in South Africa. She has been a member of the medical staff and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Washington Hospital Center and had a private practice in Washington DC since 1983. René was preceptor to residents, medical students and graduate nurse midwifery students at the WHC, teaching clinical practice. René has also been involved in clinical trials and research with the National Institute of Health. She has served on a variety of boards and associations, including the Mayor’s Advisory Board of Fetal and Maternal Health in Washington, DC, and as president of the Washington, DC Chapter of the American College Nurse Midwives. René has incorporated complementary and alternative medicine in her practice, to include herbal, homeopathic and holistic techniques. She enjoys farming, quilting, gardening, making herbal cosmetics and cooking.
